Ask yourself: is this a thing that happened, or a thing that was going on? Happened → passé composé. Was going on → imparfait.Whatever you put first — the subject, the time, the place — the conjugated verb still lands in slot two. Heute gehe ich…, never Heute ich gehe…A rule of thumb that survives contact with reality: ser for what something is, estar for how or where it is right now.Most verbs take avere in the compound past. Verbs of movement and change take essere — and then the ending has to agree.Você across most of Brazil, tu in the south and in Portugal. Same person, different verb endings, and both are correct.

Written by AI, checked before it reaches you

You can flag any card in one tap, and a flagged card gets reviewed and pulled. Most cards are written by large language models from Anthropic and Google, then checked automatically — by a different model than wrote them — before they ever appear. Audio is synthesised, except where a real human recording exists. AI still gets things wrong, so please don't rely on douce scroll for anything that matters legally, medically or financially.

Where your data stands

We collect an email address, what you're learning, and how you're doing at it. Your account and learning data is stored in the EU; the text we send for AI processing reaches providers in the US, under the safeguards set out in the policy. We do not sell your data. Analytics only run if you say yes, and you can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.
